The smartphone adoption rate in Pakistan is where the United States was around 2008 or 2009. It is rapidly growing however, through the penetration of cheaper Android-based phones.
Many apps exist for consumers, but overall design aesthetic and good user experiences are hard to find. Pakistanis are mainly used to western Facebook and Youtube apps.
Norwegian telco Telenor is the second largest mobile operator in Pakistan. Think AT&T to Verizon.
I was the creative lead, partnering with a product design team in Islamabad, developing the user experience, UI design and branding for a live cricket and politics video streaming app called Goonj, or ‘reverberate’ in Urdu.
It has quickly become Pakistan’s must-have app with over a million users and close to 10k “4 out of 5” star reviews in the Google Play store.
